On August 18th, distributor Toei revealed the full trailer for the upcoming movie 'Kita no Canariatachi' (English title: 'A Chorus of Angels') starring actress Yoshinaga Sayuri.

'Kita no Kanariatachi' commemorates the 60th anniversary of Toei and features a great ensemble actors additional to Yoshinaga, such as Shibata Kyohei, Nakamura Toru, Satomi Kotaro, Moriyama Mirai, Mitsushima Hikari, Katsuji Ryo, Miyazaki Aoi, Koike Eiko, and Matsuda Ryuhei.

The movie is based on a short story called 'Nijunengo no Shukudai' by Minato Kanae ('Kokuhaku'), which is part of the collection 'Ofuku Shokan'. It's directed by Sakamoto Junji ('Zatoichi the Last').

Yoshinaga plays a primary school teacher who was expelled from the island she had been living on due to an incident. Twenty years later she decides to visit the island again in order to find out what happened to this one student who was involved in this incident and to meet all of her former students again.



The trailer begins 20 years ago and pictures an always smiling teacher and her students during the cold winter days on the island. We get a hint at what caused her to leave the island and gradually begin to find out what happened to the students afterwards. "The day you were driven off the island, we ceased singing songs together." This subtitle touches upon the life of the six students who have been living in regret ever since that incident and now, 20 years later, finally have the chance to confess their feelings towards their teacher.

The beautiful nature of the island was skillfully captured by veteran cinematographer Kimura Daisaku. Tickets for the opening day already went on pre-sale on the 18th as well. Those who buy it in advance will receive an exclusive booklet with comments from the cast, a special report by Minato, and a map of the filming location on Rishiri Island (near Rebun Island) in Hokkaido.

'Kita no Kanariatachi' is scheduled to open in cinemas on November 3rd.
