On July 31, it was announced that V6�s Okada Junichi (31) will star in the science fiction film �Toshokan Sensou� (directed by Sato Shinsuke) that will open during Golden Week of next year.

The film is based on�Arikawa Hiro�s (40) novel of the same name; the 6-novel series has collectively sold 2,800,000 copies. The novel is set in 2019 Japan when all forms of media � novels, news, film, television, etc. � are controlled strictly and censored by the government.

The novels depict the war between the government, who censors and burns books, and the �Tosho Tokushu Butai� (Library Task Force), who fight to protect �a citizen�s right to knowledge� and books. Okada plays Doujou Atsushi, the leader and instructor of the force.

This is the second consecutive war movie for Okada, who is currently filming �Eien no 0� (directed by Yamazaki Takashi) in which he stars as a Japanese fighter pilot fighting on the Pacific front during WWII; this film will also open next year. �I think fans of the novel will be satisfied with the film. I want the film to depict the world realistically.�

Eikura Nana (24) will play the heroine of the film,�Kasahara Iku, a new recruit to the force and the love interest of Doujou.

In May of last year, before the decision to turn the novels into a film was made, a questionnaire in the magazine �da Vinci� asked fans to vote for actors to star in the lead roles; the results showed overwhelming support for Okada to star as Doujou and Eikura to star as Kasahara. Without knowing about the questionnaire, the producers offered the two actors the roles. As the casting matches perfectly with the fans' wishes, surely the film will come out on top.
