It was announced that the latest film by the unique filmmaker Ishii Gakuryu (formerly known as Ishii Sogo), 'Shanidar no Hana' ('The Flower of Shanidar') will screen at the 'Montreal World Film Festival' under the 'Focus on World Cinema' category next month.

The announcement was made by actor Ayano Go at the official stage greeting on July 4th. He stepped in front to tell the good news and started with the words, "Don't worry, I'm not going to announce my marriage or anything like that." After revealing the actual news, he congratulated the director. His co-star Kuroki Haru and the two supporting actresses Ito Ayumi and Yamashita Rio also attended the greeting.

'Shanidar no Hana' is a so-called "real fantasy" film planned and written by Ishii long before his name change in 2010. The film is about a mysterious flower named "Shanidar" that is only able to bloom on the chest of a few selected women. Everything about this flower is very expensive, because it's origin is of a new and very powerful medicine. The story is set at a special facility where a certain botanist (Ayano) and a therapist (Kuroki) study the flowers and try to make them grow faster. They eventually get charmed by the beautiful flower and learn about the basic principles of life by interacting with the donors. However, the donors continue to die once the flowers get picked and the botanist begins to question the work they are doing.

In recent news it was also revealed that a perfume in the shape of a "Shanidar" will go on sale on the same day the film opens in Japan. There will only be a limited number of perfumes available for sale. Ayano, Kuroki and Ishii participate in the creation of the perfume, which is said to have a "dramatic yet peaceful fragrance".

Ishii came up with the fictional flower after reading about the discovery of flower fossils along with the skeleton of a Neanderthal in the Shanidar Cave, Iraq. The shape of the flower is somewhat based on a Dutchman's pipe cactus.

'Shanidar no Hana' is scheduled for a release in Japan on July 20th. You can check out the trailer above!
