This is Tokyohive's regular Drama Prime Time Report giving you a detailed look at the prime time ratings with a focus on the weekly dramas.
More new dramas of the fall season made a fuss early this week and recorded great ratings, but let's go through it chronologically.
On Monday, 'Keiji no Manazashi' (TBS) experienced a small loss with its 2nd episode (6.8%; -1.6). Fuji TV premiered their Monday drama 'Umi no Ue no Shinryojo' starring Matsuda Shota and Takei Emi. It achieved a good start with a rating above the 15% mark (rating: 15.6%), but for this time slot its only mediocre. Last season's 'SUMMER NUDE' started with 17.4%.
Fuji TV also added a new drama to their Tuesday line-up. 'Miss Pilot' starring Horikita Maki aired its 1st episode at 9:00 pm and achieved a rating of 15.0%. A good start as well, but last season's 'Kyumei Byoto 24 Ji' did better with 17.7%. Afterwards on the same network, 'Yorozu Uranai Dokoro' dropped below the 10% mark (rating: 9.4%; -2.1).
For Wednesday I'll have to talk about the morning drama before the prime time dramas. NHK's 'Gochisousan' starring Anne achieved a new record-high rating of 27.3%, which even exceeded the highest rating of the previous morning drama 'Amachan' and is actually the highest rating of a morning drama since 'Sakura' in 2002. However, this rating seems to be more a result of the preceding morning news show that informed people about the powerful impending typhoon that day.
During prime time, it was 'Aibou Season 12' (TV Asahi) that glued people to their TVs. The duo of Mizutani Yutaka and Narimiya Hiroki attracted 19.7% with their 2-hour special first episode. Season 11 started with 19.9% into the fall season. 'Legal High 2' (Fuji TV) had to let a couple of viewers go after its first episode, but still achieved a very high rating of 16.8% (-4.4). Well, it's definitely no second 'Hanzawa Naoki' as some viewers who didn't watch the 1st season might have thought.
Thursdays offers the highest density of dramas. 'Kasoken no Onna' (TV Asahi) starring Sawaguchi Yasuko entered into its 13th season and recorded 12.7% at 8:00pm. This premiere caused its direct competitor 'Asaki Yumemishi' (NHK) quite a loss (rating: 3.6%; -2.0).
One hour later, Yonekura Ryoko claimed back the crown of the ratings queen with the start of 'Doctor-X 2 ~ Gekai Daimon Michiko' (TV Asahi). It recorded the highest premiere of this season with an amazing rating of 22.8%. The first season only premiered at 18.6% back in 2012. Meanwhile, 'Dokushin Kizoku' (Fuji TV) experienced a minor loss with its 2nd episode (rating: 11.3%; -1.3).
