Yanase Takashi
Manga-ka and picture book writer Yanase Takashi, who is known as the creator of "Anpanman" series, passed away at the age of 94 on October 13 at 3:08 am due to heart failure.

Because of the intention of the deceased, his funeral was held only with near relatives, but there is a plan for a memorial meeting later.

Yanase was born on February 6, 1919 in Tokyo. After graduating from Tokyo Polytechnic High School, he was active in various fields. He is known for writing the lyrics for the children's song "Tenohira wo Taiyou ni" in 1961, and he also released a picture book called "Yasashii Lion" in 1969.

It was in 1973 when "Anpanman", one of the most popular characters in Japan, first appeared in a monthly picture book, "Kinder Book", and the beloved anime series "Soreike! Anpanman" began airing on NTV in 1988. Yanase received several awards, including the grand award at the Japan Cartoonists Association Awards.

This November, the collected work of Yanase, "Yanase Takashi Daizen", will be published.

Our sincere condolences go out to his family and friends.
