AKB48 Team K's Oshima Yuko has announced her graduation from the group.

This was announced on December 31st during the broadcast of the '64th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen'. After performing "Koisuru Fortune Cookie", Oshima suddenly announced her graduation, "This will be my last time appearing on Kohaku like this. I will sing wholeheartedly." The group then performed her center song "Heavy Rotation".

Oshima hadn't told the other members about her graduation before the announcement. Details on her graduation is still undecided.

Oshima made her theater debut as a member of Team K in April of 2006. She took the number one spot in the group's 2nd (2010) and 4th (2012) Senbatsu General Elections. She has expanded her activities by starring in various movies, tv shows, and dramas.

even though i have already prepared myself for yuuko's graduation since acchan graduated, i am still a little shocked. i am happy that yuuko is finally released from akb... rumors has it that she's been thinking of graduating even before acchan's graduation, but her graduation plans got postponed because of akb. good luck yuuko in your acting career! you deserve a grand graduation, but i'm pretty sure that she will have one else she won't want it... it's still one of biggest money making ploy for the akb management after acchan's.. and good luck to akb as well... because after yuuko's graduation, takamina will only be the sole support of the group. i'm sensing that nyan nyan's graduation is also near. she has already hinted it in one of her interviews... so :)

wonder whats gonna happen to not yet..maybe she'll continue with the subgroup like sayaka with diva or completely leave since it doesnt seem like her future goals involve music

She was a child actress. She joined AKB as a stepping stone to get more exposure as an actress.

So she leaves in 2014. Does it count as a prediction then? I said she was next after Mariko announced her graduation during the senbatsu.

Anyway, she wasn't happy about losing the #1 rank to Sashihara. She just didn't quit on the spot like Mariko did is all.

Yuko told Mayuyu to use her as a stepping stone in the election. She was ok with w/e happened because she just want someone who's popular enough to support AKB in her place. She was surprise Sashi won but she wasn't upset. She even joked with Sashi about having a boyfriend backstage. She talked to magazine recently about this graduation news and she said the weight was lift off her because she can finally leave the group.

@mochichan seems they all leave after 25yrs of age max. Don't think any girl has stayed in one of these groups after 25-26. I did hear somewhere some girls were miffed about it. Although, these sources are iffy.

@whippersnapper Most idols join at 14-16 yrs old and by the time they're 20s they just want to move on. AKB management doesn't seem to force girls to graduate or we would already have mass grad of the nugu mid gen members since AKB is super crowded right now. IDK about others. It's the same for AKB, Hello!Pro, any idol groups in Japan. Idol isn't a permanent career in Japan unless you want to be Seiko or something.

@whippersnapper Sato Mieko is actually 27 now (oldest of ALL48 groups), so she's a little past the line. Kato Tomoko is 26 and I don't really see her graduating any time before her 27th birthday in April. You're right, though, there is some sort of unspoken line where they graduate.

No! Not Yuuko too! She definitely deserves a solo song (if don't have any yet) or a graduation song. :( Wish you luck!

Wait then who's going to be the next ace

I think it will be mayu or paruru, or jurina (though she's in SKE48)

Yuko was never the ace. She's just the place holder after Acchan gone. Management have always been Acchan > Yuko when she was there and when Acchan left, Yuko's just there to keep the group from losing popularity and wait for them to find another popular member since she wanted to graduate right after Acchan. It's so bs how she can't get one solo center without all these "new gens" tagging along. She wasn't even suppose to center UZA, it was Mayuyu + Jurina but they changed Mayuyu since she can't keep up with the dance. Managements don't want another absolute center like Acchan because that mentality made fans say craps like "AKB is nothing without ___" after she left. There's actually a book call "Maeda Atsuko is Jesus" that analyze the way AKB fans think about her. Mayuyu will likely put in the center but she won't be an absolute ace. There will be a others to even out the position like Wcenters or triple centers they've been doing.

@mochichan Since the girls are supposed to be "disposable," is it possible they want to control their popularity in a way that no one girl becomes indispensable? In such a situation the girl may have more leverage than they'd like.

@whippersnapper They asking her to stick around for so long mean she's not disposable. Yuko already have leverage. She belong to Ohta which is a big agency and have good friendship with AKS. Most senbatsu members who belong to a jimushi have influences in AKS, especially the ones in bigger agencies like Burning. But Yuko just isn't the "center" type to AKS so it's not about being disposable.

So happy shes graduating, I loved her but its time for the new generation to take over... I cant wait for all the original gen members to graduate and see if the group can still maintain its success

So does that mean that Shimada will be the next captain, the way its going its highly possible to have a completly 9th gen lead AKB... Yuihan is already Team A leader, Shimada seems like the most obvious choice for Team K, and Minarun and Komari are both highly likely to lead Team B whenever Umeda decides to leave

So glad Yuko finally graduate. Yuko doesn't want to be an idol anyway. She was a child actress and used AKB as a stepping stone like the group intended. There's nothing left for her to achieve and her real dream is beyond AKB but she only stayed so long out of obligations to the group when she thought about leaving since 2012. It's selfish and dumb of fans to ask her to stick around anymore because they want to see her being dorky on TV and shit. There's nothing to be sad about. At least now she can finally focus on establish herself as an actress. She'll get an amazing graduation concert at Olympic

@yodawota It's fine to be sad. What I can't stand are those fans screaming YUKO STAY IN AKB 4EVAHHHHHH!!!11!11!1 tho..*rolleyes* It won't be so bad when we get to see Yuko shine as an actress. Also graduated members get makeovers and fabulous new weaves that make them look so much better <3 Happy new year~

@mochichan That just means those fans aren't thinking for their idol's future but only thinking about themselves, I wouldn't call them fans, more like selfish fans.

It was about time. She's getting old enough to be the mother of some of the 48 members.
