As reported last month, Yoshida Akimi's popular manga "Umimachi diary" will be getting a live-action film adaptation, to be directed by Koreeda Hirokazu. 

Recently, it was announced that Ayase Haruka, Nagasawa Masami, Kaho, and Hirose Suzu would star in the film as the sisters.

"Umimachi diary" tells a story of three Koda sisters that live in a house in Kamakura. One day, the sisters visit a funeral for their father who left them when they were little, and there, they encounter their half sister "Suzu" who shares the same father. They decide to take Suzu along to their home, and they become four sisters. Through their new communal life, it depicts the family's bond.

Ayase plays as the eldest daughter, Koda Sachi, who is a nurse, and is a girl of strong character. This marks Ayase's first time participating in Koreeda's work. Nagasawa plays as Koda Yoshino, the second eldest daughter. She works for a cooperative bank, loves to drink, and has a weak spot for younger guys. 

Kaho is the third daughter, Koda Chika, who works for a sports equipment shop. She has a tendency to do things at her own pace. Lastly, the new addition to the sisters, Asano Suzu, is played by Hirose. She is good at soccer.

According to the director, he is planning to depict a year of the process that the sisters gradually begin to become family.

"Umimachi diary" is scheduled for release in early summer of 2015.
