Otsuka Ai's horror novel 'Akecha Ikenaindayo' will be published on the September issue of magazine 'Shousetsu Gendai' on August 21.
Besides her singing career, Otsuka has released two picture books 'Neko ga Mitsuketa Akai Fuusen' and 'Neko ga Suki ni Natta Kirai na Neko.' This will be her first time trying her hand at novel writing.
Otsuka received the offer from 'Shousetsu Gendai' in regards to her novel debut. She reflected, "I received a request although I am not very good at reading books. However, back when I was a student, I was very good at book reports. I've never written a novel before, but when I thought about a theme that's easy to write about, I wondered whether I should write a love story or horror story, which is something that I love to watch frequently. I have a strong image of singing love songs, so I thought that by writing horror, it would make readers think 'why?' and give them an uncomfortable feeling."
'Akecha Ikenaindayo' will tell stories of "several spooky happenings that occurred at grandma's house." Otsuka commented, "I actually have an object wrapped up in the basement of my house, so I expanded on that and wrote a story of a horror movie that I want to watch. When I started, I wrote it impulsively and was done in an instant."
