On September 20, there was a surprise announcement that Keyakizaka46's new name will be 'Sakurazaka46.' 

During their online live 'KEYAKIZAKA46 Live Online, but with YOU!' in July, the group had announced that they will end their activities as Keyakizaka46 after their live on October 12 and 13, then restart their activities under a brand new name.

The surprise announcement was made via the video screens in front of Shibuya Station. There was also a CM regarding the name change that aired during TV Tokyo's 'Keyakitte Kakenai?' 

Sakurazaka46's activities will officially begin on October 14. The actual location of 'Sakurazaka' is adjacent to Keyakizaka in Roppongi, and the group uses the traditional Chinese character for 'sakura.' 

Captain Sugai Yuka commented, "When I first heard the name, I felt really happy that the group would be named after the flower that represents Japan. At the same time, I strongly felt that we must become a proud group and live up to our name."
