Miura Kentaro, the creator of the 'Berserk' manga series, has passed away at on May 6 due to acute aortic dissection. He was only 54 years old.
Miura made his debut with 'Futatabi...' in 1985 which was serialized in Gekkan Shonen Magazine. He released his famous manga 'Berserk' as a one-shot comic in Gekkan Comicomi in 1988. It was serialized the year after in Gekkan Animal House, then later in Young Animal. To date, 'Berserk' has 40 tankobon (standalone book) volumes, and has received both TV anime and anime film adaptations.
A private funeral for Miura has already been held with family. Young Animal's Editorial Department released a statement on Hakusensha's official website, "How should we grasp this unacceptable reality. Honestly, we cannot find the words. What we are reminded of is his smile whenever he would meet with the people of the editorial department, and how he would cheerfully talk about his favorite manga, anime, and movies. We have never seen Miura-sensei angry. He always looked like a young boy who was having fun."
We would like to express our deepest condolences to Miura's family and friends during this difficult time.
