
Sugiyama Koichi, known for composing the music for the 'Dragon Quest' series, passed away on September 30 from septic shock. He was 90 years old. His funeral and farewell ceremony has already been held with immediate family.
Sugiyama was born on April 11, 1931 in Tokyo. In addition to creating hit songs such as "Amairo no Kami no Otome," "Hana no Kubikazari," "Koi no Fuga," and "Gakuseigai no Kissaten," he had composed music in various genres including CMs, animes, and even horse racing fanfares for the Japan Racing Association. He received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette award in 2018 and was named a Person of Cultural Merit in 2020.
