
Singer and actress Kanda Sayaka passed away on December 18 following an apparent fall from her room at a hotel in Sapporo, Hokkaido. She was 35 years old.
Kanda was staying at a hotel in Sapporo to perform in the musical 'My Fair Lady.' According to reports, she was discovered on the hotel grounds, and was transported to the hospital where she later died. Her agency wrote, "It is very unfortunate that we have to make this announcement. We are finding it hard to believe, and unable to accept this situation."
Kanda is the daughter of actor Kanda Masaki and singer Matsuda Seiko. She made her singing debut under the name 'SAYAKA' in 2002, then switched over to her current name in 2006. Besides singing, she has starred in various musicals. In 2014, she voiced Anna in the Japanese-dubbed version of the Disney animated film 'Frozen' gaining national popularity. In 2018, she won the '43rd Kikuta Kazuo Theater Award.' Then in 2020, she formed the unit ALICes with Kurosaki Maon.
