Kayama Yuzo has announced that he will be retiring from stage after his concert aboard the luxury liner Asuka II in December.
The 85-year-old singer has overcome many challenges during his long life - the burning down of his ship 'Mitsunori Maru' as well as suffering a compression fracture in his hip, a stroke, and cerebral hemorrhage. He began to wonder whether he will be able to continue delivering concerts that he will be content with. Upon discussion with his family and staff, he thought, "Rather than quitting when I can sing no more, I want to stop while I can still sing. I will sing as always until the end. That's the best option." As such, he decided to bring an end to his concert career, which he has continued for over half a century.
Kazama's final concert to the general audience will be held on September 9 at the Tokyo International Forum. Tickets will go on sale on July 18.
