On September 12, YOSHIKI shared via Twitter that he hurt his neck while playing drums during a CM shoot.
YOSHIKI wrote, "Earlier, I was shooting a scene where I had to play the drums and hurt my neck.. I'm currently at the hospital." He added, "If possible, I want to avoid getting a neck surgery for the third time. I already have an artificial disc inserted."
About 13 years ago, YOSHIKI's symptoms of herniated disc worsened due to aggressive drum playing. In 2009, he had both a cervical laminectomy and a cervical foraminotomy. Then in 2017, he underwent emergency surgery for cervical disc herniation.
After surgery, YOSHIKI was unable to play the drums for some time. As such, X JAPAN's tour 'X JAPAN WORLD TOUR 2017 WE ARE X' was held in acoustic style. He returned to drums in 2018 for 'X JAPAN LIVE 2018: 10th Anniversary of Reunion PREMIUM GIGS - YOSHIKI Night of Resurrection.'
