On November 11, YOSHIKI (Dr, Piano / X JAPAN), HYDE (Vo / L'Arc-en-Ciel, VAMPS), SUGIZO (G / LUNA SEA, X JAPAN), and MIYAVI (G) held a press conference announcing the formation for their band THE LAST ROCKSTARS. After premiering their song "THE LAST ROCKSTARS," netizens took to Twitter to ask if this is the same as X JAPAN's song "Rockstar," which will be included in the band's new album.
Back in 2018, YOSHIKI shared a portion of "Rockstar" on social media. While revealing the song's title, he uploaded a video on himself operating the ARP 2500, a monophonic analog modular synthesizer.
In response to a Twitter user's question about "THE LAST ROCKSTARS" and "Rockstar" being the same song, YOSHIKI responded, "#XJAPAN's song Rockstar is a dance style song. Also, all of the members did not participate in its recording. Besides the band members, it features participation by other artists. We cannot release it right now. I'm sorry."
