In a tragic incident in Sapporo's Nishi Ward, a compact Kei car experienced a tire detachment, rolling down a slope and colliding with a young girl. The girl, around 4 years old, is currently in critical condition and unconscious.
This unfortunate event occurred around 1:30 PM on the 14th. The left front tire of a Kei car, a type of ultra-compact vehicle widely used in Japan, detached, hitting a girl who was walking home from kindergarten with her older sister and father.
Kei cars are known for their small size and fuel efficiency. The one involved in this incident is suspected to be modified, with bolts from the tire found scattered at the scene.
The police have taken a 49-year-old man into custody on suspicion of causing injury through negligent driving. The individual has admitted to the charges, stating, "There is no mistake that the tire came off while driving and hit the girl." A deeply unfortunate situation.
