The MUSIC WAY PROJECT, launched on February 25, aims to accelerate the globalization and sustainable growth of the Japanese music industry. With its high-profile debut in Los Angeles, the initiative has already demonstrated its impact, laying the groundwork for future international expansion.
A portion of ticket sales from the concert will support L.A. wildfire recovery efforts through MusiCares, reinforcing the event's commitment to community engagement.
A World-Class J-pop Showcase
YOASOBI set the tone for the night, with ikura’s crystalline vocals soaring over Ayase’s intricate production. Their music, rich with storytelling, captivated the audience, transforming the theater into a synchronized chorus. Songs like "Idol" and "Yoru ni Kakeru (Into The Night)" resonated with both longtime fans and new listeners, proving the duo’s ability to transcend language barriers and unite a global audience.

ATARASHII GAKKO! followed with a performance that blended precision and chaos in their signature style. Opening with "Change" and transitioning seamlessly into their viral sensation "OTONABLUE," the quartet commanded the stage with unrelenting energy. Their fusion of traditional Japanese elements with modern beats amplified the night’s excitement, culminating in the debut of "One Heart," a heartfelt moment that solidified their unique appeal.

Ado closed the show with a performance as powerful as her voice. From the electrifying "Show" to the intense "Odo," she delivered each note with unmatched force. The sheer physicality of her vocals left the audience in awe, making it clear why she has become one of Japan’s most compelling young artists.

A bridge between Japanese and U.S. music industries
Beyond the performances, MATSURI’25 also served as a significant networking event. Earlier in the day, the matsuri'25: JP Music Industry Mixer was hosted by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Los Angeles, gathering key industry figures from both Japan and the U.S. A panel discussion, "Music Festivals and Live Events: The Key to Japanese Artists' Success in the International Market," featured insights from music executives about the challenges and opportunities for Japanese artists in North America. Panelists included Tom Windish (EVP, Wasserman Music), Ellen Lu (VP of Regional Festivals, Goldenvoice), and Rob Kelso (Dir. of U.S. Operations, Creativeman Productions), with journalist Ryan J. Downey moderating.

With thoughtful discussions on touring logistics, international collaborations, and the growing demand for J-pop at major festivals like Coachella and Head in the Clouds, the event underscored the increasing global appeal of Japanese artists.
The future of Japanese music in the U.S.
MATSURI’25 was more than just a concert—it was a statement. By bringing together top-tier Japanese artists and industry leaders, the event signaled a new era for J-pop in America. With the success of this sold-out showcase, CEIPA and the MUSIC WAY PROJECT have set the stage for future collaborations and expansion, proving that Japan’s next wave of artists isn’t waiting for global recognition—they’re already leading the charge.
