Japanese comedian Shinya Ueda of Cream Stew shared on the March 19 late-night episode of Ota Ueda that his wife suffered a serious injury during a recent family ski trip, resulting in hospitalization and surgery.
It was the first time in 25 years that Ueda had gone skiing, and he admitted he was struggling on the slopes. "I was sliding down, shouting, ‘Whoa, I can’t stop!’" he recalled. His wife, who was trying to guide him, warned him about his posture, saying, “You’re leaning too far back.” However, as she focused on him, she lost her own balance and fell hard onto an icy patch, hitting her hip.
Unaware of the severity of the fall, Ueda initially thought she had simply gotten stuck in the snow. "I looked back, and she wasn’t moving," he said. When he made his way back up to check on her, she told him, "This is bad. I can’t get up." It was later confirmed that she had fractured her hip.
Even in the tense situation, Ueda attempted to lighten the mood with a joke, but it didn’t go over well. "She said she couldn’t move, so I asked the rescuer, ‘Mind switching places and letting her drive?’ She just snapped, ‘Not the time for that!’”
The accident turned out to be more severe than he initially thought, as his wife had to undergo surgery and remained in the hospital for about three weeks. "It was a tough time," he admitted.
