"Monday Late Show" apologizes for intentionally altering interview with Chinese woman in March 24 broadcast

TH STAFF

The production team behind the Nippon TV variety show Monday Late Show, hosted by SUPER EIGHT's Shingo Murakami and Matsuko Deluxe, issued an apology on March 27 regarding a misleading edit in their March 24 broadcast.

The segment in question, titled Advice for Those Moving to Tokyo This Spring, featured a street interview with a Chinese woman. During the aired segment, she was portrayed as saying that crows are rare in China because "everyone eats them" and that they are "boiled and eaten." However, the official statement clarified that she never made such claims. Instead, the production team had intentionally edited a conversation about a completely different topic, altering the original context.

The show acknowledged that this was an unacceptable action for a television program and extended an apology and regret to both the woman involved and the audience. They also pledged to review their production process to prevent similar incidents in the future.
