Japanese rock icon YOSHIKI has been selected to perform both the U.S. and Japanese national anthems at the 2025 Major League Baseball (MLB) Opening Day in Tokyo. The event, set for March 18 at the Tokyo Dome, will mark a historic showdown between the reigning World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Chicago Cubs.

This performance will be particularly significant as it marks YOSHIKI’s first public appearance since undergoing his third major neck surgery in October 2024. Despite years of physically demanding performances as both a rock drummer and classical pianist, YOSHIKI continues to make an impact on the global stage.

The upcoming game holds special meaning for Japanese baseball fans, with several Japanese players in both teams' lineups. The Dodgers will feature Shohei Ohtani, Roki Sasaki, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, while the Cubs will showcase Seiya Suzuki and Shota Imanaga.

YOSHIKI has previously performed the U.S. national anthem at Dodger Stadium and Carnegie Hall, but this will be his first time performing Japan’s anthem live before an audience. Reflecting on the opportunity, he shared:

“I feel honored to be part of this major event. This will be my first performance since my neck surgery, but I will do my best to honor these beautiful songs and contribute to the special bond between the U.S., Japan, and the rest of the world.”
