AKB48 will release their 66th single on August 13, commemorating the 20th anniversary of the group's formation. The single will feature 22 senbatsu members, including 11 current members and four iconic former members: Atsuko Maeda, Minami Takahashi, Haruna Kojima, and Rino Sashihara.
In a historic first, one representative from each of the group’s seven overseas sister groupsーJKT48, BNK48, MNL48, Team SH, Team TP, CGM48, and KLP48ーwill also participate. Local language versions of the single will be released in each of the seven corresponding regions. This marks the first time since 2016's "Kimi wa Melody"—the group’s 10th anniversary single—that former members have taken part in the title track, and the first-ever inclusion of overseas sister group members.
Yui Oguri, now in her 12th year with AKB48, will serve as the center for the single. This will be her third time in the role and her first in approximately two years, following the group's 62nd single "Idol Nanka Janakattara." Oguri expressed, "I want to make this AKB48's new signature song, like 'Koisuru Fortune Cookie'!"
Fans who purchase the first press limited edition will have access to several special events, including handshake events at Intex Osaka on August 31, Makuhari Messe in Chiba on October 13, and a fan meeting at Sendai PIT in Miyagi on September 20. Additional individual handshake events and online talk events will be held from July through September for those who purchase through the official AKB48 shop.
Furthermore, AKB48 will hold a live tour in five cities nationwide starting in August, with six performances at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo from December 4th to 7th, and a special performance to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the AKB48 Theater in Tokyo on December 8th.
