It has been reported that LUNA SEA drummer Shinya has passed away. He was 56 years old.

Since 2020, Shinya had been battling stage four colorectal cancer. After undergoing seven rounds of surgery, as well as chemotherapy and radiation treatments, he continued performing until the final show of LUNA SEA's 35th anniversary tour, which was held in February 2025 at Tokyo Dome. However, after collapsing from dizziness last fall, he underwent an MRI that revealed a brain tumor. Upon announcing this diagnosis, he took a step back from his activities to focus on treatment. Although he was unable to perform at last year's rock festival 'LUNATIC FEST. 2025,' he stood on stage and vowed that he would make his return. On his birthday, January 13 of this year, he had just shared on social media, "Thanks to everyone, I was able to grow a year older. I will do my best to get better." 

In accordance with his family's wishes, a private funeral has been held with close relatives. An event is being planned so that fans can have the opportunity to pay their final respects.
