Shinichiro Sato, drummer of the rock band the pillows, died of esophageal cancer on March 23. He was 61. 

An announcement made on March 28 said, "Drummer Shinichiro Sato, who had been undergoing medical treatment, passed away from esophageal cancer on March 23."

The statement also mentioned that the funeral had already been held privately with family members, and expressed gratitude to fans, saying, "We sincerely thank everyone who enriched Shinichiro Sato’s musical career over the years."
