
On May 20, NHK announced it will begin streaming 19 past drama titles worldwide on Netflix starting June 22.
The lineup includes taiga dramas, morning dramas, and other popular NHK productions as part of an agreement aimed at expanding Japanese content and culture to overseas audiences.
Initial titles scheduled for release include the taiga drama 'Gunshi Kanbei,' morning drama 'Manpuku,' drama series 'Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju,' 'Kazoku Dakara Aishitan Janakute, Aishita no ga Kazoku Datta,' 'Sora Wataru Kyoshitsu,' and 'Tokyo Salad Bowl.'These six titles will begin streaming on June 22, with a total of 19 works planned for release throughout 2026.
NHK stated that by partnering with Netflix, which offers multilingual support and subtitle functions, it hopes to deliver high-quality Japanese drama productions to wider global audiences and deepen international understanding of Japanese society and culture.
