Akihiro Miwa died of natural causes on June 20 at the age of 91, according to a statement released on his official website.

Miwa began studying classical singing in elementary school and launched his professional singing career at just 16 years old. Over the decades, he built a remarkable career spanning music, film, television, voice acting, and writing, becoming known for songs such as "Meque-Meque" and "Yoitomake no Uta." He also appeared in the 'NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen' for four consecutive years beginning in 2012.

According to the statement, Miwa had reduced his workload over the past year due to his age and had been recuperating at home after his health declined about three months ago. He reportedly spent his final moments expressing gratitude before peacefully passing away.

In accordance with his wishes, a private funeral was held for family members. The memorial altar was adorned with yellow roses, Miwa's favorite flowers, and his coffin was filled with letters from fans.

His official website also shared a handwritten message he left behind: "The only weapon for surviving in this world is words of love."
