Renowned Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama dies at 97

Renowned Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama has passed away at the age of 97. Her death was announced through her official website on August 27.

According to the announcement, Kusama continued creating art until shortly before her death, dedicating her life to painting, performance, writing, and other forms of artistic expression.

Born in Nagano in 1929, Kusama became known around the world for her signature polka dots, repetitive patterns, and immersive installations. She moved to New York in 1957, where she became active in the avant-garde art scene, before returning to Japan in 1973.

Over her decades-long career, Kusama created numerous well-known works, including her "Infinity Mirror Rooms" and "My Eternal Soul" series. Her work has been exhibited around the world, making her one of Japan's most internationally recognized contemporary artists.

Kusama received numerous honors for her work, including Japan's Order of Culture in 2016.
