MNL48, the Manila-based sister group of AKB48, announced on May 20 that they will conclude their activities at the end of the month.
In a statement released by management company P.O.S Inc., the decision was described as a difficult one that was made after careful discussions regarding the sustainability of the group's management structure and future business environment. They also explained that continuing activities while maintaining stable support for the group had become difficult, and apologized to fans for not being able to fully meet expectations.
The music video for "Pag-ibig Fortune Cookie," the group's cover of AKB48's hit song "Koisuru Fortune Cookie," released on the same day, serves as MNL48's final work as a group.
MNL48 was first announced in 2016, with 72 first-generation members revealed in October 2018.
