A new anime based on Yoshinori Kobayashi's "Obocchama-kun" will air on TV Asahi in 2027. Titled Obocchama-kun REBORN, the series marks the return of the comedy anime more than three decades after its original run.
First serialized in Monthly CoroCoro Comic in 1986, Obocchama-kun follows Chama Obo, the eccentric heir to the extremely wealthy Obo family. The original TV anime began airing in 1989 and became known for Chama's distinctive expressions known as "Chama-go."
The new anime project was inspired by the popularity of the original series when it aired in India during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. Strong demand from India for a continuation eventually led to the development of a new Japan-India co-production.
Obocchama-kun REBORN will adapt previously unanimated stories from the original manga, while also featuring new original stories supervised by Kobayashi. Chie Kojiro will reprise her role as Chama from the original anime.
A teaser visual and promotional video have also been released ahead of the 2027 premiere.
