There are many firework festivals all over Japan during the summer. But let me introduce one of the biggest and oldest fireworks festivals in Japan, "Sumida River Fireworks Festival."
"Sumida River Fireworks Festival" first started in 1733 as a funeral for people who died from great famine and cholera. Although the festival has been interrupted from time to time due to historical situations, since 1978, the festival hasn't missed a single year.
The fireworks show is amazing as they shoot off more than 20,000 fireworks. In 2009, the festival pulled in 948,000 people.
"Sumida River Fireworks Festival" will be held on July 31st this year. If you have a chance to go to Japan, I recommend you check out this festival!
