Over August 25th and 26th, Ken Hirai gave his traditional "Ken's Bar" performances in New York City, which were aptly renamed, "Ken Hirai 15th Anniversary Special!! Vol.3 Ken's Bar in N.Y."
The performances were held at the B.B. King Blues Club & Grill, a venue that Ken Hirai often went to himself. This was the first time in seven years that the singer has had a live in New York, which made many of his American fans quite happy. People lined up for the event, and the audience eventually had to be capped at 600 people.
Ken Hirai kicked off his set of 15 songs by enthusiastically performing a cover of Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind". He went on to say, "I'm super super nervous." He apologized and continued, "I think there are people here who don't understand Japanese, so I'll try my hardest and sing with my heart. Let's make the best memories! Big Apple Boys & Girls!" Once Ken Hirai was done being talkative, he quickly moved on to impressing the American audience with his vocals.
As he has now wrapped up his activities in New York, he mentioned that he is determined to continue his live events back home in Japan. On October 26th and 27th, he will be performing a special Budokan live with Roberta Flack and Raul Midon. Fans can expect him to perform more excellent Western covers here as well.
