AKB48’s new single “Beginner” sold over 560,000 copies the first day!

Girl group AKB48 just released their 18th single “Beginner” on October 27th.  It’s now being reported that the single sold 568,095 copies on the first day, and of course, it topped the Oricon Daily Singles chart.

As we reported earlier, “Beginner” shipped out over 1 million copies before its release, so it’s very likely that AKB48 will go over the million sales mark for the very first time.

AKB48 member, Maeda Atsuko made a new blog entry stating, “I was surprised when I  watched the news about 1,030,000 copies shipping out!  It sounds like a lie…  I’m very grateful to many people.  Thank you very much.  I never expected that us, AKB48 would be able to use the word ‘Million’.”

Let’s wait and see if they can reach 1 million before the week is up!

    wow that is soo amazing. seeling over 500K in one day is a TOTALLY AMAZING feat. the only other group to do it in 2010 is Arashi i think?

    AKB48 is breaking the records. Each AKB48 fan (the majority men like me) have to feel happy.

    why is only girls commenting this news??… Where are the AKB fanboys???

    However… AKB48 will pass the 1 million copies sold and I wouldn’t like to see arashi fans here!

    Omg?? Seriously??!! Damn that’s awesome and I’m not even a fan of them (Arashi fan here :b)!! I really hope that they will be able to sell more than a million in their first week, ’cause the Japanese Music Industry needs some REAL records :D Plus the sales of albums has gone downhill for years :/ Hope they will make it!!

    (Utada Hikaru sold about 3 million copies in her first week during her peak and it was a full album but we don’t see those kinds of sales records anymore)

    #13 no offense but just I’m sick of seeing negative comments from arashi fans, maybe not here but it happens in other sites. In fact I like the old johnny’s like Tacky & tsubasa, kinki kids and smap. Lastly johnny’s is focused in fangirls (maybe this is the reason why my friends who are AKB fans don’t like johnny’s)

    well I think the Japanese music scene is very united and connected
    I don’t see the jrock fans insulting jpop and vice versa (even on Nico Nico douga) don’t think you can really name specific groups cause there’s way too many
    and uh we already see all the fanwars between sones, cassies, elfs, etc etc I hope?

    GO AKB48, to the million :))))))

    @16: Then they are not fans if they are doing that. I know a lot of Johnny Fans and they don’t bash other artists. Fanwars are mostly left to kpop from what I’ve seen (the main reason I stopped listening to kpop). ^^ We’re all a tight-knit jpop/jrock/visual-kei community here. Hope this changes your mind about us.

    By the way I think sho sakurai is the best rapper from johnny’s (for example in “a day in our life”) and OK the majority of fans love AKB but just I mean i can’t understand a few comments.

    #30, lol. But you are right, Jrock/Jpop fans tend to like multiple talents/genres at the same time.

    People normally thought I am a guy (due to my tendency towards Jrock/musicians/sound engineering in my comments) when I’m actually a girl.

    Musically, my ultimate favs are Janne Da Arc/Acid Black Cherry and B’z. At the same time, I have a great respect for Takizawa Hideaki, he is such an all-rounder artist/leader. I enjoy Kanjani8 talents. I care about young J-rock bands. I like YUI, Ikimonogakari and AKB48 as well. And I churn tonnes of materials from other artists/talents too. Variety makes our lives colorful. ^^

    Well.. if you remember a couple of months ago, when TH put the Heavy Rotation PV. The bashing is not from any JPop Fans, but from our infamous neighbors. I kinda expected it to happen again, but I’m happy it’s not. All is cool.

    LOVE arashi but i guess if anyone is to beat them, i’m glad that it’s one of the two female japanese singers/groups i actually listen to. Love their song and i hope they make it to 1 million by this week. :D

    vv Well, its true that I hardly if ever see fans wars in Jpop/Jrock/etc. There is bias of course but nothing like the hardcore hate we see from Kpop. Fans should all unite and help albums and single you like, so we can get Japan’s Music industry out of its slump >.>

    kindaaa already predict this when the sales of heavy rotation come out last time.. aniewei, im a HUGE arashi fans and would LOVE to see the Oricon full of Arashi. LOL…. but no bashing from here.. if any song from akb would beat arashi sales’ , it should be Beginner. Its a great song, very addictive, and the PV is AWESOME too… ^^ I hope this would be a wake up call for JOhhny to release a more variety of PV for my boys. aniwei, Go Arashi & AkB.. ^^ Its gonne be AWESOME to see how the oricon yearly will be dominated by both of them . LOL

    @16: do you mean in arama? I think you got it all wrong. In arama, I see almost all arashi fans are not bashing akb at all. They even congratulate and accept it. If you see one or two arashi fans bashing, pls don’t generalise that arashi fans are like that. Not all ppl bashing AKB are not Arashi fans! They probably are just newbies. And most Je hardcore fans are not that kind of type too. I have lots and lots of Arashi fans and Je fans. They are quite reasonable and civilized.

    Congrate AKB48! I am pretty impressed by this pv. But tell the truth, I am pretty disappointed with their previous 2 pvs this year! And no offence. This is my personal taste!

    @25: I love you for pointing that out. Even if jpop fans’ so-called-bashing is nothing compared to kpop where fans used so many vulgarities words with any reasoning at all.

    AWESOME, i’m a HUGE fans of arashi, and i love it if arashi can have the first position in oricon. but AKB48 is my first sight love for girlband, and i DO LOVE THIS SINGLE XDD
    more addicting than heavy rotation.
    568k in first day is more than AMAZING i’m proud to be akb and arashi’s fans!

    how come anything other than praise and groveling is considered bashing? why can’t we express our opinions if we want to, regardless of if they are positive or not?

    that being said.. I don’t think they are very talented and catchyness of a song is simply an indication of marketability.. I personally don’t think their songs/music/work are any good, but it’s pretty obvious that if they were not so blatantly provocative then they would not have a fraction of the sales they do now.

    wow such good news. I’m not a fan of AKB48, in fact I only listen to RIVER, but I have to say, I’m glad that they are doing well! I quite like Beginner ^ ^ Regardless of whether they or Arashi take the No.1 spot, I’m still equally happy =D Arashi should have competitions and vice versa, ya? 8D oh and I listen to a very wide genre of music..and I’m glad I found a few songs that I like from AKB48.

    unfortunately telling everyone that they ARE untalented and do not put out any good music is bashing.
    All you have to do is either NOT comment or if you want a whole speech, just say you don’t like AKB48.
    We respect opinions but seriously everybody is talented at something and if you don’t like their music why do you comment on a AKB48 article?
    I’m looking at this article, it doesn’t mention Arashi, JE boys, or any kpop groups.
    You don’t like AKB and that’s fine but seriously…. Their most provocative thing they did was Heavy rotation and ponytail. Guess which song made them 500k selling idols, RIVER.

    Wow I like the comments on this thread cos I love what you guys said about jmusic fans not bashing other groups. Actually I’ve seen many people bashing my fav, yamapi, and it upsets me but I know that the kind of stuff they say is nothing compared to the HATE that kpop fans/antis have towards certain groups or artists that compete with their fav group. In jmusic, fans have so much variety of gorgeous music to choose from, and each genre and group has their own loyal fans, so there’s no need to compete. Specifically in JE, even if I don’t like a group specifically, and they sell better than my fav group, I won’t ‘hate’ them, cos I mean they’re all friends!! I will readily admit that I don’t listen to AKB at all, but hey, total congratulations to them, and I hope they break that record=D
