I am hoping you know that Live-Action does not mean this will be an Action film…
it’s just pertains to it not being an animated or CG flick… They will be casting flesh and blood humans in each role. Like Nana.. I just hope that it won’t follow the same lame formula all anime/manga to hollywood movies do, because dragon ball sucked.

Just the fact that it’s coming from Hollywood is a turn off, even though I loved the anime/manga.

If they want to make this more realistic, they should just stop. Fruits Basket is all fantasy/romance, so what is the point of having them being realistic? They’re going to ruin this.

1) They want to make it “realistic”? It’s a manga about a family that transform into animals, how realistic are you going to get it?

2) It’s 23 volumes long; how the hell are you fitting that into one movie, when a lot that goes on is uber important?

3) ….How is Tohru sleeping in a tent unrealistic? First off, it fits perfectly with her personality. Secondly, she says she had only been there for a week. A girl can make it in a tent in the woods for a week. Thirdly…are you going to have her not live with all those men as well?

Why Hollywood? And it’s kind of hard to turn this plot into something realistic. People actually like it when you stick to the plot.
Overall, I am kind of excited and I really want to see how this turns out

this will ruin fruits basket! I will watch it but i have a heavy feeling for this… somethings need to be left untouched… and remain in the memory as one of the best manga/anime ever… turn this in to a good movie with the full effects you read in the manga/see in the anime will be extremely hard!

maybe they’ll have her living in an underpass of a bridge or somewhere that exudes homeless. Most likely cut out the transformation thing and just make it about a dysfunctional family that Tohru gets involved with.

Never really read Fruit Basket (My friend said she did and we have similar tastes and she didn’t like it too much) and this series pisses me off at the book store because it’s been out for…. like a decade and it can STILL take up a 2 whole shelves while NEW manga can’t even have multiple copies of a volume (sorry the rant… yeah can see the thumb downs coming now but that’s besides the point) and now it’s going to a be a Hollywood movie?! Oh geez they should really stop… and it’s suppose to be realistic? From what I heard about the series people turn into animals… that’s like saying a Hollywood Sailormoon will not be about space and mythology or YuGiOh will not be about Egypt *shakes head* They should pick a more REALISTIC manga to make a movie out of so it’ll be less f-ed up.

They could make their own ParaKiss or how about Chobits? That’s a popular manga in the States too…. But they shouldn’t take a fantasy manga, say “let’s make it into a movie!” and then add “…but let’s make it more realistic!”

I really appreciate these Hollywood directors trying to being over Japanese manga adaptions into the US, seeing as it could bring more awareness to mangas and animes but I need them to stop picking the ones that cannot and should not be done. This is kind of old news. I was never a Fruits Basket fan, but I don’t think that he should make a movie for this. There are a lot of things that normal Americans wouldn’t understand without detailed explanation that a half hour film does not provide. There are other popular manga that have more Western/American-like storylines and characters. I think he should have finished the Cowboy Bebop movie and see how successful it was, then start a new project.
Good news for fans- He seems like he is bit of an Otaku, so I’m sure he won’t kill it too much, unlike bigger companies like Fox who know almost nothing of the original series.
Bad news for fans- the budget is probably going to be low.
Well, whatever happens, I probably won’t watch it (Not a big movie lover) We should all just enjoy the manga, and ignore the anime adaptations or films we despise and not let it bother us.

Well, if they make the movie into something loosely based on manga/anime (just taking the general idea from “Furuba”) but transformed so it fits western “reality”, it could be a nice movie. I mean, to the point of changing names of characters (because wouldn’t that be weird if Caucasian person is called “Yuki” or “Tohru”) and editing big part of storyline. Then it maybe, ma-a-a-aybe, could be some nice movie that, truthfully, wouldn’t be “Furuba” at all.
But if they want to keep the storyline and characters mostly unedited, I would prefer this movie to be made in Japan, with Japanese actors and director.

@48 can you blame us? seriously every anime adaptation except speed racer, sucked hell. Yes i do have a problem with caucasian actors cause acting is never the reason they get cast. Its because those nutjobs think that asian faces cant pull audience. Well neither did they, Dragonball never made it to the top 5, TLA imediatley dropped in the seccond week. Even Speed racer didnt end up on 1st.

Justin Chatwin never acted like Goku, and in TLA they all sucked. They didnt even bother to give those kids lessons.

Its going to be like Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac all over again, except this time it will be the opposite. Fruits basket has too much Japanese culture elements that are part of the story. It will not look right in an American Audience. Here in America, girls do NOT act cute to get attention. Well, the definition of acting cute is different. This will just be weird. An American girl acting cute is like trying to look at Magibon on youtube for the whole video. It just doesn’t work out.
