allkpop

Idol force AKB48 has officially announcedtheirfirst single of 2011, which will be released on February 16th.

Additionally, theOricon chart announced their 2010 yearly rankings for singles, and AKB48 was a dominating presence on the list. AKB48's October single, "Beginner", topped the chart at number one, followed by "Heavy Rotation" at number two, "Ponytail to ShuShu" at number five, and "Chance no Junban" at number eight. This places four songs from the idol group in the top ten singles of the year.

AKB48's new single will be a continuation of the timing of their successful releases from previous years. In 2009, they released the song "10 Nen Zakura", and in 2010, they released "Sakura no Shiori." Although the title of the new track has not been announced yet, it will be a follow up to their previous early spring singles. All that has been revealed so far is that the atmosphere for the new song will be completely different from the previous two spring singles.

Their new single will differ from previous releases, as it will just be one track recorded in three different versions and then released in Type-A and Type-B editions. First press editions of the single will contain tickets to a handshake event in random copies, so fans better make reservations now so they get a chance to win.
