Last week, we reported that idol group AKB48 made Oricon history by having four of their singles chart in the top ten simultaneously, but wait... there's more!
This week, "Heavy Rotation" is in second, "Chance no Junban" is in third, "Beginner" is in fourth, and "Ponytail to Shushu" is in sixth, retaining their current record of four simultaneous top ten singles.
However, other AKB48 singles have also recharted in the Oricon Top 100 due to the famous "Kouhaku effect". "Namida Surprise!" jumped from 117 to 71, "Oogoe Diamond" leapt up to 74 more than two years after its release, and "Juunen Zakura" made it all the way up to 88.
Altogether, this gives AKB48 a total of 11 singles in the Oricon Top 100. AKB48 is now fourth place in terms of number of singles placing in the top 100, behind such greats as Southern All Stars, Matsutouya Yumi, and L'arc~en~ciel. Oricon predicts that this trend is likely to continue, placing more AKB48 singles back on the charts and retaining recent releases.
Congratulations to AKB48 on their accomplishment!
