NHK held a press conference for their upcoming drama special "Maigo". Scriptwriter Maeda Shiro and the two actors, Minamisawa Nao and Kanai Yuuta attended the event.

"Maigo" is a nice little drama about a female high school student (Minamisawa) and a college student (Kanai) who come across a foreign grandmother that seems to have lost her way in the Japanese city. Together they want to help her, e.g. by finding someone who would be able to interpret what she is saying, but it becomes a journey filled with various unexpected incidents. It is a story about city people that start to bond with each other, all thanks to the poor lost foreign grandmother.

Minamisawa about the relationship among the cast, "This time we had the chance to have a lot of rehearsals prior to the filming. Kanai, Okada Ren, who plays my younger brother and I have been become really close friends. I think the great atmosphere has contributed to the drama a lot."

Kanai about the drama, "If I had to compare this drama with food, I would say that it is a really nice and organic meal without any unnecessary food coloring. It simply has a really good feeling to it. When I watched the finished version, I thought that it became a drama with a story that, before you realize it, is able to win you over completely. You always want to know what those people are going to do next. It doesn't need any special sound effects or a unique way of editing. Thanks to the force of the actors, the director and the script you get introduced into the story in a really genuine way, just like organic food."

Minamisawa continued to talk about the hardship she had during the filming. She said, "In the drama I fight a lot with Ren: kicking, chasing after him. It was really difficult to get closer to him because of that, therefore I have tried to talk with him as often as possible during our free time. However, during one quarrel scene I was supposed to kick him with all my might and it turned out to be quite painful actually. After that scene, the distance between us got bigger, which made me feel really bad again. (laughs)"

Be sure to check out "Maigo", a simple yet touching drama that will air on NHK on February 19th.
