I definitely got worried when I saw that Toma was the picture of this article. I thought that he would be number one, but thank goodness. Let’s not forget about that Galaxy Award, now. Nino!!!

I do feel like Toma should be second, though, and I like Nakai, but I’m not a huge fan of his acting.

I’m still not into a lot of Johnny’s as actors. A lot of them are really type-casted and it’s not that interesting. I think that a real challenge is stepping out of a typical Johnny’s role and successfully playing a different one no matter what it is, and not bothering about an image they have to keep.

That’s why I think Toma and Nino are so amazing. Ohno as well, but he’s not on the ranking.

Now that I think about it, I agree, but I had completely forgotten about Tackey until you mentioned him. Maybe it’s because he hasn’t been in any dramas or movies for a little over a year.

How in the world is Yamashita ranked higher than Nagase and MatsuJun? I’ve seen some of Yamashita’s dramas (never finished any of them though), and I gotta say…he sucks at acting. MatsuJun and Nagase’s acting are at least believable.

And where in the world is Ohno? He’s not the best actor, but he’s still definitely better than Yamashita.

I’m glad Kame’s not on here though. His acting is just as bad as Yamashita’s, maybe even worse lol.

I mean, it’s a little bit of both, but there is certainly some merit to this ranking in terms of true acting ability no matter what age you are. I think that Ashida Mana is a great actress and I’m well over six. There aren’t that many good actors in JE to begin with, so it’s like picking the best of the bunch within a small circle of maybe at the most, 15 talents.

I do agree, though, that some of these guys aren’t good actors, but the point I guess is that they make their roles work for them, and I guess that they are convincing enough in their roles that viewers will vote for them.

Probably why Kimura’s here? He probably is the most typecasted JE talent there is. This rank seems to be a balance between acting ability and popularity. And Nino’s top because he’s got a good amount of both.

Where’s Ohno in this list? He was amazing in Maou and Kaibutsu-kun. Guess because he hasn’t been in as many dramas/movies as the others.

Toma is not ‘one of the very few talents within the agency who are solely focusing on acting’,he’s the only one who doesn’t have a musical career..

LOLed hard on #10…i remember watching his Konkatsu!..thoroughly enjoyable but he’s not one of the decent actors in Johnny’s..better stick to hosting

yes yes yes..i’ve always think nino is one great actor..from Haikei, Chichiue-sama to Ryusei no Kizuna to Freeter…he is one splendid actor and i could never forget how great he is alongside ken watanabe in letters from iwo jima…i totally adore him ^^

Nino and Ohno are both great actors – I dare say their abilities are equal – even though their acting styles are quite different… To be honest, (though I knew he had few TV appearances in drama/SP before), we can say Ohno just started being the lead in the dramas since 2008 (Maou), so I guess it’s still early to have everybody see/recognize his acting talents… besides I think the impression of his usual character in all Arashi TV Shows are stronger among the japanese audience. (offtopic-ish: I’m so glad Ohno accepted to be in Maou because if not for that drama, I would never get to know this hidden gem in Johnny’s!)

Not surprised w/ Ikuta Toma winning that Blue Ribbon Awards thing. He did a pretty good job acting in Hanamizuki alongside Gakky last year.

Nino should be up next for that award. He’s practically amazinggg since last year’s Ooku & Freeter + this year’s GANTZ.

The most challenging thing about the job of an actor is that he has to be another person entirely. And that’s easier said than done. The total overhaul requires something that goes deeper than the conscious level. Nino has shown me this depth each time he is casted. “Door to Door” for example, wonderful movie.

I think he’s poor at romantic comedy. He said himself he’s uncomfortable acting in romantic drama. But He definitely shines in dark roles like in Shiroi Kage, Suna no Utsawa and Watashi wa Kai ni Naritai.

I really wish Kimura will get a chance to act in more varieties of roles. IMO, the problem seems to be with his star status. Audiences especially women always want to see him in a cool, hero kind of role. So he’s underrated by many people due to that fact.

I was in awe watching his acting in a non-typical hero kind of roles. I highly recommend One Million Stars Falling from the Sky, Bushi no Ichibun, Karei Naru Ichizoku, I Come with the Rain and Change. He’s so brilliant in all of these dramas/movies.

Also, another problem is that he’s a person with such a strong personality, so when people watch him in hero kind of roles, which are similar to his image, they tend to relate those characters to his real self.

However, I once watched an interview of a Fuji drama producer. He said that he’s really amazed with Kimura’s acting ability. Normally for such a superstar like him, people will have strong image of him in their minds. But he’s able to suck in the roles as commoners so well that all those characters seem so real.

Yamapi’s defense is in three roles for me. Code Blue, Stand Up, and Kurosagi. Three different characters that he played brilliantly. But do I think he should be on the list? For a JE actor yes, for a Japanese actor not really. Kame hasn’t really left a mark as far as acting for me. As a host her rules. For Arashi, They all deserve to be on the list and I am kinda upset that Aiba isn’t on the list. Cause he is a better actor than Jun (love Junnie). But Ryo should definitely be higher. Don´t badmouth Yamapi.. I mean, I watched a LOT of Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese dramas..well, you can´t really watch all of them..that would take years to finish. And my whole asian drama top is made of Nobuta wo produce, Proposal daisakusen (with some small complaints) and IWGP (Makoto and the King are the best). I could watch some scenes from these over and over and would never get tired of it. As for Yamapi´s dramas, I only didn´t like much Code blue, second half of Buzzer beat and the first half of Kurosagi episodes.

Nino acts so naturally in all his roles, but I think of him as just another candidate for transfering to Hollywood. He is really good, but I didn´t really like any of dramas and movies where he appeared. Even when he was young and played with Yamapi in Stand up, I was totally rooting for Kengo, who was more sympathetic than the lead character.

Just my opinion. :) Now I still have to watch some of Kimutaku´s dramas..which I sadly haven´t so far.

My personal top three
In the few drama/film I’ve seen him in Nino is always excellent – plus he’s well known as a strong actor so maybe it’s appropriate he’s no 1.

Kimura Takuya he’s so warm and engaging in every drama I’ve seen him in, he’s extremely watchable and I like him a lot.

Nishikido Ryo to round off my top three – Again, I haven’t seen everything he’s done – but he sucks you in, my favourite drama of his is “Last Friends”. There was something so pathetic and needy about his character, I couldn’t hate him, yet I felt repulsion and pity for him.

But to make a woman beating loser, compelling to watch? Now that takes talent.

What drama you watched that he acting WASN’T good, seriously most of you are blind with your so called biased that you can’t see the others. His acting is always good and his emotions shows clearly on his face the only problem is that the roles aren’t that strong which give him a weak acting skills. Otherwise what attract me to the whole japan thing was him and his acting.

Agree with nino sooo much, he really is a great actor. From a teenage who killed his father, perverted virgin in Stand Up!, a serious soldier, a vengeful brother trying to find a murder, an adorable highschooler, and a person suffering from cancer, and being a autistic guy… Well my point is that he can do various characters and that’s why his recognize alot, unlike other in JE who have to stick with ome certain type.

I actually didn’t like Yamashita’s role in Nobuta… it was DREADFULLY annoying like he was trying too hard to act like that…. I liked the overall simple story but not his acting in that definitely

Sorry people but Ohno’s gotta be number one. He can be the disturbed Naruse of Maou, the real-life freeta in Uta no Onii-san, and– wait for it– the cute Kaibutsu-kun. Someone with that range deserves the top spot. Nino, KimuTaku and Toma are great too though.

Matsujun and Pi have their moments. Aiba has potential. And whew, am I glad Sho isnt here coz he cant act for dear life. He’s my favorite Arashi but not as actor. Peace out Sho-fans. Lol

Maou is an acting masterpiece. That scene between Toma and Maou in the stairs, at around ep 9 or 10–the part where Serizawa was telling Naruse that he wanted to pay himself but couldn’t– damn. jitters!

Kimura’s acting isn’t bad. I think he comes off natural with some of his body gestures that he does unlike others. But it’s his popularity that makes him great (since SMAP is THE best boy band in Japan so… yeah they have a pretty high status) I only saw some of his stuff but it’s usually a romance movie…. kinda like how Leonardo always played some romantic back in his Titanic days and always had a sex scene in them lol. But people said Kimura did other roles too so I guess that’s good. Among all the Johnnys he really should be recognized since 90% of his dramas have 20%+ ratings

Nino is a very great actor BUT i think Tsuyopon should be 1st because when he acts….its way too legit! I’ve only watched Ninkyo Helper with Tsuyoshi and i was sooooooo impressed! I couldn’t believe it was him because he is so different when not acting….freaking shy, quiet, smiling, observant, push over, soft spoken Tsuyopon vs Yakuza, mean, jerk, kickass, frowning all the damn time, Hikoichi…total opposites xD

Takuya freaking owns that one! I love his facial expressions! I’ve only watched one Drama series 3 times(not alot but for me it is) and its not even my top 2 favorites(1st Love Shuffle & 2nd Stand Up!!)
It was Mr. Brain! mainly because i loved looking and observing Takuya’s expressions! So hilarious!
and even when he’s not acting….like when he’s dancing! I advise everyone to watch the performance when SMAP sung touch my body with mariah carey…lol their dance was crazy! i blame it on the choreographer though and check out Takuya’s expressions! i laugh the whole time while watching it xD

People need to watch Kimura in non-romantic roles before judging him. Some non-fans just keep watching him in romantic roles and bash him for always acting in the same role. Plenty of brilliant non-romantic roles are out there. But they just don’t bother to watch them. :)

Really? An acting masterpiece? I couldn’t get passed the first episode – Toma in particular did my head in, just over acting all over the place. And was it necessary for him run EVERYWHERE? He just kept charging off like someone lit a fire under his ass.

Maybe i struggled with it because i saw and loved to Korean version so much. I think i’m gonna give it another try.

I don’t understand why Kame isn’t on that list, he is a fantastic actor. Yes he’s had to act out a few dud scripts but he’s given some great performances. Yuuki, in particular, brought me to tears.
