Former Morning Musume memberYoshizawa Hitomi was another entertainer who finished the Tokyo Marathon on February 27th.
Afterwards, she expressed her thoughts and feelings on the marathon and her ambitions for the future.
Previously, I never would have guessed that I could complete a full marathon. At around 38km in, I thought to myself, Im almost at the finish line. I wanted to cry, but I told myself, No no, you cant cry until you finish this. As soon as I crossed the finish line, I started to sob.
10km from the start, I was en route through Shiba Park and Ishikawa Rika-chan (former member of Morning Musume with Yoshizawa) was there cheering for me. She was waving a Maradona flag for some reason, because she had just returned home from work in Argentina. That made me really happy.
Afterwards, around 35km in, I was crossing over Tsukuba Bridge and Q-chan (relative of Sydney Olympics female marathon gold medalist,Takahashi Naoko) ran up from behind me and said, Yossi~ You can do it. I was able to run thanks to everyones support.
I was supposed to do my first full marathon last September at the Sydney Marathon, but when I was there, I got lower back pain and couldnt complete it. For this marathon, even though I did around a 100k pace per month for training, I ended up injuring my right leg earlier this February. However, I never once thought about quitting. Around 25km in, my leg started to hurt, but I regretted Sydney so much that I had to take my revenge and finish this race.
Hereafter, I want to appear at marathons like Honolulu and New York every year. For the next Tokyo Marathon, I mostly want to make sure my leg doesnt hurt and I want to beat my time from this year: 6 hours, 46 minutes, and 1 second.
