‘Antoki no Inochi’ and ‘Waga Haha no Ki’ win big at the Montreal World Film Festival

The 35th Montreal World Film Festival, one of North America’s biggest international film festivals, held its awards ceremony on August 28th, and two Japanese films have received honorable distinctions.

Waga Haha no Ki‘ won the Special Grand Prix of the Jury Award and ‘Antoki no Inochi‘ received the Innovation Award; both were applauded for their innovative and high-quality productions. This makes it the fourth consecutive year that a Japanese film has won an award at this prestigious film festival.

Japanese films have gained international recognition in the past for its deep, reflective movies. In 2006 and 2008,  ‘Nagai Sanpo‘ and ‘Okuribito‘ both won the Grand Prix award at this festival respectively, allowing Japanese films to become even more widely received  into the homes of  movie fans around the globe.

‘Waga Haha no Ki’ hits theaters in 2012 while ‘Antoki no Inochi’ will be released on November 19th. Congratulations to these two productions!
