Kobukuro to go on hiatus due to Kobuchi Kentaro’s health condition

L to R: Kuroda Shunsuke and Kobuchi Kentaro

On August 28th, popular duo Kobukuro announced that they will go on hiatus due to the poor health of member Kobuchi Kentaro (34), who was diagnosed with dystonia last year.

Dystonia is a condition where the muscles contract involuntarily, and so because of this, Kobuchi had difficulties singing as he could not control his vocals. Reportedly, Kobuchi will need at least half a year to treat the symptoms of this condition.

Concluding their final concert in Hokkaido, Kobukuro stated, “Although at first we were worried about taking this hiatus, but we would like to rest a bit, as given from our fans and God. Please wait patiently for a small amount of time,” and ended their final concert in Hokkaido.

I remember getting into Kobukuro after hearing their song Toki no Ashioto as the ending theme to a Hayami Mokomichi drama.  Their sound is beautiful and sensitive, with some of the most meaningful lyrics I’ve had the pleasure of hearing. I truly hope that Kobuchi-san can recover fully and speedily,  so he can go on performing with his lovely voice.  Best wishes, honestly.

It saddens me to hear of his illness.  Considering how much we fans have enjoyed their talents, how could we not wish for Kobuchi-san to take all the time he needs.  I hope that the both of them will have the best ‘vacation’ and return stronger than ever!
