Korea’s GD&TOP to make debut this November with “Oh Yeah”

Korean duo GD&TOP of the quintet Big Bang has announced that they’ll be making their Japanese debut in November!

Recently, a Japanese media outlet reported, “Big Bang’s sub-unit GD&TOP will be making their Japanese debut with their single album ‘Oh Yeah‘ on November 9th.”

This will be another project under YG and avex Entertainment’s collaboration label, YGEX.  “Oh Yeah” is a song off of their Korean album released in December last year with a featuring by 2NE1’s Bom.  A Japanese version of “High High” will also be included in the release, with particular emphasis on the lyrics’ promunciation and meaning.

GD&TOP stated, “Our unit’s concept is freedom.  It’s something friendly, like the youth you see playing on the streets.  Big Bang itself is a very free-spirited group so we want to transfer that energy on the stage.”

GD might…from what I can tell TOP’s japanese isn’t that good.

I really hope it’s not them rapping in English and Bom singing in Japanese. I mean their english is great, but for a debut it’s a not a good idea.

  • Rhamni

I’m interested in seeing how they’ll do this song. :O I haven’t heard them rap in Japanese much, if at all.

But… um… I kinda wish they would wait to debut in Japan… I mean, they only have one album in Korean. .-.

Isn’t gd going out with kiko mizuhara? Maybe his pronunciation got better…top? Idek….I loved this album before, so I am interested in how this will turn out.

  • ~michie~

they are part of big bang, so I don’t consider this a debut since they are already active in japan, more like a sub group activity.

probably a physical single like most debuts, with a B-side track.

I’m so excited about this, I’ve already seen the concept pictures! GD&TOP have a great urban concept, I think their music will show a very unique side of BIGBANG to Japan, I wonder if TOP’s japanese got any better haha 8D

    OH YEAH!

I love this song. Though I wonder how much the lyrics will change? Often when YG switches Korean to Japanese songs, GDs and TOPs rapping often becomes English. I can’t wait to see how they write this song.

I loved the entire GD&TOP album but tbh, i’m worried about how it’s gonna translate in japanese. i would love YGE to put more effort in their releases in nippon, cause 2ne1’s song in japanese didn’t translate well.

As a VIP, I don’t approve this. Knowing GTOP’’s bad japanese, they would be rapping in Engrish. Basically High High will be 90~100% Engrish, while Oh Yeah will be around 80%.

In another word, this is a bad idea.

I really don’t think their music suits Japan… and I’m not a fan of their songs having the tendency to have 80% english 20% Japanese. Yes, I’m sceptical about this. I don’t even think BB and 2NE1 are even that popular in Japan are they….? idk. This is just my opinion from an unbiased point of view.

Hopefully we’ll hear some more japanese! :D Then again engrish isn’t that big of a deal in Japan, I know a bunch of Japanese bands/artists that have songs completely in english. Hopefully their rapping will have good flow in japanese

I’d rather them debut with new songs though. Since i’ve already heard all of gd & top’s songs it’d be nice to hear some original japanese songs from them. Ah well, Japanese people probably haven’t heard them yet so it’s ok.

Honestly, I’m not looking forward to this. Their music doesn’t suit the taste I have from japanese music.

Just my opinion though. I don’t enjoy rapping/R&B/ect that much.

  • SamiKa

Looking forward to see how its gonna sound in Japanese. I don’t understand Korean and with this am hoping that this time around I’ll understand at least half the lyrics XD

r there any japanese rappers? if not, i guess this is a great opportunity for the japanese to experience the rappers rap in japanese! Lol….

park bom? into their song? that would make the song 100% engrish! let’s stay with 80% plz~

…Seriously? People really think YG is bringing something brand new over to Japan, huh? I guess you really are of all ‘pops’ if you’re ignorant to the large amount of rap/hip-hop that exists in Japan.  C’mon.. m-flo… never even heard of them? And just looking at the collabo/projects they did with others you’ll learn more of other rappers. Just because TH doesn’t cover many Japanese rappers doesn’t mean they don’t exist. (but just going by your profile you seem to be int he Kpop scene than anything)

  • NOVJ

Gotta go listen to JYJ’s “In Heaven” bye bye~

  • NOVJ

Lol we’ll see. Big Bang doesn’t really release remake songs like other kpop groups.    They should’ve make Japanese version of “Love song” at least if they’re going to recycle it.

There’s tons of Japanese rappers and they’ve been rapping in Japan since the 90’s. Hip-hop culture (mostly breaking) has been around in Japan even longer. Where have you been? I know we get a Kreva story on TH once in while so you should at least now of him. I also see Ai stories on here sometimes.

here are several lists of artist in that rap genre i am familiar with Halcali,MFLO, Teriyaki Boyz, Rhymester, Home Made Kazoku, Hime, Miss Monday. Nujabes is a notable producer and innovator in  the hip hop scene.
in the 80s-90s Japan had started to develop a rap scene. their styles also have trip hop, r&b, shibuya kei (jazz, nu jazz), punk, funk, pop rap, etc.And aside from the hiphop style there is rock rap for a long time.

  • chub chub

    seriously?
even i who is not a fan of this type of music well aware of rappers from japan
    psh…
big bang, 2ne1 is not as shocking as what japan have to offer
    lol

E-A-S-Y! on the negativity, folks. GD&TOP polished up on their Japanese skills since the last interview you watched. TOP sounded GREAT rapping in Japanese in Gummy’s “I’m Sorry” so far, and their music is TONS of fun! They are great, unique artists and they are going to GREAT in Japan!!! Anticipate them!
