Sawamura Ikki to star as surgeon in upcoming drama, “DOCTORS Saikyou no Meii”

It was announced on September 7 that actor Sawamura Ikki will be starring in the upcoming TV Asahi drama “DOCTORS Saikyou no Meii” as a mysterious but talented surgeon.

The story follows a prodigal surgeon who works at a corrupt hospital. A kind doctor to his patients, he also has a darker side, using sometimes questionable means to punish colleagues who have forgotten their duties due to greed.

Sawamura commented, “It’s a story that reveals problems that hospitals and doctors encounter. It’s not simply a, “Help the weak, punish the strong,” kind of story, but I hope [the audience] can find the main character’s actions satisfying.”

For the role, Sawamura received specialized training in holding a surgical knife and stitching up sutures from a real surgeon. Regarding the surgery scenes, the actor commented confidently, “I’ve been told I have dextrous fingers, so I think I have some potential at being a surgeon.” He generated laughs by adding, “But my grades weren’t enough.”

“DOCTORS Saikyou no Meii” will start airing in October on Thursdays at 9pm (JST).
