On January 3rd, it was announced that NMB48 member Shimada Rena (18) was chosen as the captain of the 2nd generation.

The surprise announcement was made through a letter from Akimoto Yasushi during "the New Year special stage" held at NMB48 theater. �Though Shimada couldn't hide her astonishment from this sudden nomination, she gladly accepted this new role. �She stated to the audience, "Since I want to repay my obligations to NMB48, I will try my best", and received a warm round of applause.

Back in September of 2011, Shimada suspended her activities after her private sticker pictures leaked, and she just recently returned to the stage on January 1st, 2012.

It was also announced that they will create "Team M" on�January�26th.
