AKB48’s latest single “GIVE ME FIVE!” sells over 966,000 copies on its release day

AKB48’s 25th single “GIVE ME FIVE!” was released on February 15th, and it topped Oricon’s daily chart with a sales figure of 966,529 copies on the first day!

This is the third best record for the number of sales on the release day after AKB48’s “Kaze wa Fuiteiru” (released in October 2011/sold 1,045,937 copies on the first day), and “Flying Get” (released in August 2011/sold 1,025,952 copies on the first day).

It’s a good start for AKB48 and they’re well on their way to have another million sales single. If this single sells over a million copies, it would mark AKB48’s 6th consecutive single (and 7th single overall) to sell over a million copies.
