GO!GO!7188 disbands after Yuu’s withdrawal

Today it was announced that GO!GO!7188’s vocalist and guitarist Nakashima Yumi, also known as Yuu, has decided to withdraw from the band. This decision consequently lead to the disbandment of GO!GO!7188.
Yuu explained the reason for her decision to leave on the official site of the band. She wrote, “I do think that the band was still in a process of growing, but I felt that I’ve reached the limit of what I can do for the band. This feeling has been growing stronger day by day, until it felt wrong to be stand on stage as part of GO!GO! anymore. That’s why I decided to withdraw from the band. I think I would betray everyone else if I continued to force myself to keep on doing what I don’t want to do anymore, and I just couldn’t bring myself to do that.”
GO!GO!7188 was created by Yuu (guitar, vocals) and Akko (bass, vocals) in 1998. A few years later, Turkey (drums, vocals) was added to the band and they made their major debut with the single “Taiyou” in June of 2000. In 2004, they held their first gig at the legendary Nippon Budokan and in 2007 they successfully completed their first American tour.
