On May 23rd, playwright Mitani Koki and actress Kobayashi Satomi officially announced their plans to divorce by sending a joint fax to all the major media outlets. The entire fax is reproduced below:

"On this day, May 23, Mitani Koki and Kobayashi Satomi has officially filed for divorce.

"There was no major event that led to this decision. Instead, as both parties lived together for an extended period of time, small differences in their values and ways of thinking steadily became bigger.

"Both parties have spoken with each other about the future and continue to respect each other, but because of irreconcilable differences, they have decided to go their separate ways.

"We sincerely apologize for causing concern. We plan to continue working as always.
