Catch the first trailer for Nakamura Yoshihiro's "Potechi"
The official website of the upcoming film "Potechi" was recently updated with a full-length trailer.
Written by Isaka Kotaro, the story tells of two young men born in Sendai, in the same year, on the same day, in the same hospital. However, they are living completely different lifestyles, one is a professional baseball player and the other one a pretty ordinary man who struggles to make a living as a cat burglar. Despite the difference in their lives, their fates seem to be connected through an odd and strong bond, which becomes evident after the burglar and a suicidal woman start to sneak into the house of the baseball player.
"Potechi" is the fourth film directed by Nakamura Yoshihiro. His previous films are "Ahiru to Kamo no Coin Locker", "Fish Story", and "Golden Slumber". After the Great Tohoku Earthquake, it was his dearest wish to do this movie and film everything in Sendai.
Another highlight of the movie will be the score, which is going to be entirely handled by singer-songwriter Saito Kazuyoshi. The theme song "Konya, Ringo no Konoshita de" was especially written for the film and it is not yet known whether it's going to see a CD release in the future or not. Saito was already featured in a fictional band in Nakamura's "Fish Story". Moreover he covered The Beatles for Nakamura's other movie, "Golden Slumber". You can listen to his latest work in the trailer.
The cast includes Hamada Gaku, Kimura Fumino, Omori Nao, Ishida Eri, and several hundred extras from Sendai.
Writer Isaka himself commented, "It's such a fun movie full of humor. Even while I'm writing this comment and recall some scenes from the movie, I can't help but smile to myself. It's scary, but I think I prefer the movie to the original."
