According to the band's official announcement, Oyamada jumped into the river from 4.5 meters (~15 feet) high at 9:00 am on the 4th and was taken to an emergency medical service center.
Due to the quick transport and treatment, he is in no danger. However, he suffered multiple injuries that include a head injury, cervical and thoracic spinal cord injury, and several bone fractures.
It was estimated that it would benecessaryfor him to receive treatment and rehabilitation forseveral months to a year. Therefore, the band and staff members have decided to cancel the band's scheduled live concerts and events, including the nationwide tour (planned to start at the end of July) as well as the band's last live concert before their disbandment, which was supposed to be held at Nippon Budokan on September 24.
Currently, Oyamada is undergoing examination and treatment in the ICU. Though herecovered consciousness, he is still unable to have conversations.
Oyamada's agency explained the reason why he jumped in to the river: "The precise details remain unknown as he is not in the condition to be able to explain, but we believe that it could have been a spontaneous action was caused by his mental instability."
