In June, marriage counseling platform "Onet" carried out an online survey to find out what kind of female figure bachelors like in Japan. They were also asked to select a female celebrity with the best figure according to their taste. Onet has now released the results.

The survey was conducted after a recent article of a very popular women's magazine, which claimed that somewhat chubby women are more popular with men than women with a slim body these days. They even defined such a body figure as "puniko" (lit. "squishy girl") with exact numbers for how much you should weigh depending on your height. A bit too much weight and you are already "chubby" instead of "puniko". Said magazine has even begun scouting "puniko" girls for their fashion and beauty pictorials.

A total of 665 bachelors participated in the Onet survey and were categorized according to their age: 20~24 years old (166 men), 25~29 years old (167 men), 30~34 years old (166 men), and 35~39 years old (166 men). The results definitely show that an increasing number of men prefer women who are "slightly chubby" (more than 10% of all bachelors). However, most men still favor a "normal" figure, followed by "somewhat slender". Their preferences also change depending on whether they are on the lookout for a girlfriend or a possible marriage partner and depending on their own figure.
