This is Tokyohive's regular Drama Prime Time Report that gives you a detailed look at the prime time ratings with a focus on the weekly dramas.
On Sunday, TBS aired the final episode of the hit drama 'Hanzawa Naoki' and as expected it managed to break the 40% in all regions.
In the Kanto region, it achieved an outstanding rating of 42.2% (+6.3%) and therefore surpassed NTV's recent hit drama 'Kaseifu no Mita' as the most successful drama since the year 2000. It's also the fourth best drama rating in history for the Kanto region. In the Kansai region, it recorded a rating of 45.5%, which is actually the highest rating of a drama episode since the beginning of the Heisei era (1989-) and the second highest rating since 1968; excluding NHK's morning and taiga dramas.
The rating peaked two minutes before the end of the final episode. In this moment, the chart showed 46.7% in Kanto and 50.4% in Kansai. This means that theoretically half of all registered households in Japan tuned in to watch the climax of the show. Therefore it's no surprise that various media outlets report that TBS was bombarded with thousands of requests for a continuation of this drama right after final episode finished airing. Will TBS please them with a second season or at least a feature-length film?
'Naruyouni Narusa' (TBS) and 'Saitou-san 2' (NTV) didn't conclude the seasons with as outstanding results, but they still belong to the more succesful dramas of the season. 'Naruyouni Narusa' achieved 11.8% (-0.7%) with its final episode and can be satisfied with a season-average of 12.65%. 'Saitou-san 2' recorded 12.9% (-0.2%) and can boast a season-average of 12.31%.
