It's been announced that a new AKB48 sister group will be launched in Shanghai, China.

Besides Japan, AKB48 already has sister groups overseas such as JKT48 in Indonesia and BNK48 in Thailand. The audition for the first generation members will begin at the end of the year with more details to come.

You may already be familiar with SNH48, an AKB48 sister group that formed in Shanghai back in 2012. However, due to a breach of contract with the local management in 2016, they have been declared independent from AKB48.
